A Midsummer Night's Dream WebQuest!

Well, What Types of "Love" Are There?

ACTIVITY 3:

There seems to be a bunch of reasons why "the course of true love never does run smooth" in this play.  As a warm-up for the next part of this WebQuest, you will write down all of the relationships in the play that you can remember (For example, Theseus and Hippolyta, Oberon and Titania).  There are many more in the play, and they all seem to have their difficulties!  See how many you can get!

You may just list them on your paper in an organized fashion.

P.S. Don't forget about my man, Puck!  See Picture Below:

It's Hard!

We know that the course of love certainly doesn't go smoothly for a lot of the characters in the play (not just Helena!).

Look at the pictures that follow and answer the questions.

ACTIVITY 4:  Using the ideas from the pictures above and your answer from Activity 3, I want you to write three small paragraphs explaining three of the difficult love-types in this play.

For example, we know that some of the characters are in love but have parental restraints.   We also know that one person may be in love with another... but the feeling may not be shared.

Be specific in your answer, and don't forget to use names and examples from the play!

Conclusion

Whew!  We've learned a lot about the central message of this story: love.  To finish up this activity, please read the directions and complete a table of relationships below.

From the other questions, we've learned about many different relationships and many different problems that restrain these relationships.

FINAL ACTIVITY:

As a culminating activity, you will be making a chart.  On this chart, you should list the following:

-Five of the most important relationships in the play.

-Reasons why the two people in the relationship are drawn to one another (Be specific: looks, status, etc.)

-What difficulty they face.

-What you think will happen to this relationship in the end of the play (For example, do you think Demetrius and Hermia will ever be together!?).

ADD A COLUMN OF YOUR OWN FOR BONUS POINTS!

You should have at least four rows and five columns (or vice versa, depending on how you set up your table!).  Use all of the infomration you've gainied from doing this WebQuest!  Good Luck!
